3D PRINTING KNOWLEDGE & STRATEGY

Improve 3D print finish: gloss bands, blobs and wall texture

Trace a surface defect to speed, flow, cooling or motion before choosing the next calibration test.

01

Compare the defect with the preview

A change in sheen at a particular height can coincide with changing outer-wall speed or minimum-layer-time behavior. Inspect the speed and flow previews at that height. A seam blob and a full-width band deserve different experiments.

02

Keep outer-wall conditions consistent

Test a steadier outer-wall speed and keep temperature fixed for that comparison. Layer-time cooling may silently slow small layers. OrcaSlicer provides a control to avoid slowing outer walls; use it only if small features still have adequate cooling.

03

Separate cosmetics from extrusion faults

Calibrate flow and pressure advance for the actual spool and nozzle. Check for moisture, nozzle buildup and loose motion components if the pattern persists. Choose the temperature by surface appearance and layer bonding together; an attractive wall can still be weak.
